Pirates Take Two From Santa Rosa Bearcubs

Modesto, CA:  Game 1:  MJC 8 – SRJC 7.  The visiting Bearcubs started scoring early with a 3 run first inning, but the Pirates had a good inning as well scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the second. The back and forth scoring lasted all game, but the Pirates were able to hit last and score 2 in the bottom of the 7th to secure the win.  Down 6 -7 Jana Fontana (Beyer HS) grounded out to SS, pinch hitter Aubrey Garcia (Patterson HS) lined a double to left center and Morgan Keeney (Waterford HS) doubled to right field to tie the score at 7 when Garcia crossed the plate.  DaShanae Parker (Modesto HS) dropped a perfect bunt for a single and moved Keeney to 3rd.  When Parker attempted the steal the catcher threw the ball to center field and Keeney scored the winning run for an 8-7 win.  Emmilee Boles (Dakota Ridge HS) followed her perfect game with a 9 hit, 3K, 2BB performance.  Parker lead the offense with a 3-4 game and a run while, Kaycee Creek (Ceres HS) went 2-4 2R, 2RBI's, Steele Shumway (Pitman HS) 2-3 RBI, and Keeney 2-4 2R, 2 RBI for multiple hit Pirates.

Game 2:  MJC 9 – SRJC 4  In the second game the Bearcubs struck first again scoring 2 in the opening inning and another in the 4th while the Pirates only managed a single run until the 5th inning and scored 6 Runs on 5 hits to make the game 7 -3.  Santa Rosa managed a run in the 6th but the Pirates scored 2 more and closed out the 7th.  Boles went 7 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, striking out 4 and allowed 4 walks and as a bonus went 2-2 at the plate with a 2b.  Offensively Parker went 2-4 3R, Taylor Brewer (Waterford HS) 2-4 R, Garcia 2-3 2R, 3RBI's.  The Pirates moved to 8-3 on the day while Santa Rosa fell to 10-8.  The rematch will happen on Friday May 21 at Sonoma State University as Santa Rosa JC is upgrading their turf for 2022.  Game time is 12pm and 2pm with limited spectators allowed due to COVID.

The games marked the last at Pirate Field for sophomores Cheyenne Juarez who will attend Grand Canyon University for business and plans to walk on for softball.  Alyssa Donaldson will attend Fresno State University to finish her degree in English and become a teacher.  Steele Shumway will also attend Fresno State University as a track athlete while studying forensic science.  Kaycee Creek will attend nursing school at Modesto Junior College. Morgan Keeney is currenly speaking to 4 year schools to continue playing softball while study excercise science to be an athletic trainer and Emmilee Boles is looking to continue pitching and will study business administration for senior care.  Good luck Pirates!!!!

MJC will travel to Santa Rosa to take on the Bearcubs in the rematch series.  Game will be played at Sonoma State University as SRJC is undergoing a turf upgrade to their home field.  Game times are 12pm and 2pm with limited spectator attendance due to COVID.
